Wodonga Diamonds Dream Team 1974 - 2011
STEFAN KAISER (Goalkeeper) - One of the best "shot-stoppers" in the history of AWFA. Not overly tall for a goalkeeper, Stefan's agility and reflexes denied many a forward a certain goal. Played in 1980s, featuring in winning Riverina Cup team in 1988 and AWFA cup winning side in 1989.
BRAD KING (Defender) - Best and Fairest Winner 1989. A fast, aggressive, over-lapping left back that prided himself in "getting under the oppositions skin" in order to beat his opponent. Brad often used his verbal sprays to mentally beat his opponent. Rarely beaten by his counterpart. League winner 1985, 86 and 90. Cup winner 1989-1990.
JIM REGULSKI (Defender) - Best and Fairest Winner 1988, 1991 and 1993. On his day one of the best players in the AWFA. Jim's strength lay in his versatlity. Possessor of a terrific left and right foot, brilliant in the air and very quick. Scorer of the winning goal in the 1989 AWFA Cup final, scoring with a header against an on-coming 6 ft 5in in keeper! (There is amateur video footage of this. His leap should be seen to be believed!!!). Played in four winning Grand-Final teams, the last in 2001 as the team's GOALKEEPER.
KEN COOPER (Defender) - An aggressive, attacking right-back who was never beaten. Very vocal on the field, Ken proved his veratility by playing as a forward on many occasions, scoring vital goals. Member of 1981 Grand Final winning team, 1985 Riverina Cup and 1985-86 Championship double.
PAUL MILLYNN (Defender) - (Captain) - Best and Fairest winner 1983,1984 and 1990. Winner of three AWFA Grand Finals and three League Championships as a player, Paul also coached the winning 2000 Diamonds Seniors men's team as well as 5 times AWFA Senior Women's titles. One of the best "sweepers" of the 1980s and early 90s, Paul's strength lay in his coolness under pressure, the ability to read the game and be very strong in the tackle. A real leader in defence, Paul also had the ability to score important goals going forward and being a real menace to the opposition in their penalty area.
RICHARD HERZINA (Midfield) - Best and Fairest 1985. The team's "David Beckham" for his crossing ability, shooting prowess and skill at set-pieces. A tireless runner in the midfield, Richard had an outstanding penalty-taking record. The only recorded miss in his playing career hit the post! Holder of a club-record 410 Senior games.
STEVE BRUNEC (Midfield) - (Vice-Captain) - Best and Fairest winner 1996, 1998 and 1999. AWFA Star Player 1998, 1999. The team's "Little-General", Steve was the complete midfielder. Terrific ball-skills and passing ability, Steve was the link-man between forward and defence. A player who led by example by his hard running and work ethic. Very difficult player to mark out of the game.
MILAN DZAIC/OPACIC (Midfield) - One of the key players in the Wodonga Diamonds side that won the 1977 League and Cup double. Rated by many observers of the time to be amongst the best 3 or 4 players to have played in the area along with the likes of Nick Andronicos and Arthur Peters. Single-handedly won a semi final against Twin City by scoring four times in a 5-3 win.
PAUL BRUNEC (Midfield) - Best and Fairest winner 2000, 2005 and 2007. Star AWFA Player 2003. Lightning quick, with exquisite dribbling skills, Paul had the ability to mesmerise defences with his skill. A great passer of the ball, Paul scored many a fine goal attacking on the break. Nicknamed "Knackers".
CARLO VILLANI (Jnr) (Forward) - Leading goal-scorer in 1990 with 33 goals in AWFA. Possessor of a deadly left-foot (like Maradona), Carlo tormented defences with his skill, shooting and ability in the air. With "pace to burn", Carlo could create "something out of nothing". Carlo went on to bigger and better things in Canberra and with Morwell Falcons in the National League.
ALEX VASKOVIC (Forward) - Best and Fairest 1994, 2001. AWFA Star Player 2001. 6 times club leading goal-scorer, Alex's best season was in 2001. Playing as a defensive midfielder, Alex won the AWFA star player as well as being leading goal scorer! To cap it off the team went through the season undefeated winning the league and cup double! With his silky skills and touch, Alex had a terrific ability to convert opportunities in front of goal.
TIM RICKMAN (Bench-Goalkeeper). Tim's strengths lay in his ability to not only make top saves, but to act like an extra defender. Vocal in the box, Tim would bark instructions to his defence and ensure everyone knew their roles.
JAMIE MARCUZZI (Bench-Defender). Best and fairest winner 2004. A tireless worker, Jamie would run till he "dropped". A player that gave 110% and would often play injured. An inspiration to his team-mates defending or going forward.
GEORGE HORVATEK (Bench-Midfield) - Best and fairest winner 1995 at 37 years old! Winner of the Best and Fairest in his first year at the club, one wonders how good George was in his twenties and early 30s! A player with skill and confidence on the ball, you knew something positive and constructive would come whenever George had the ball at his feet.
DANIEL MILLYNN (Bench-Midfield) - Runner up Best and Fairest 2008. Runner up AWFA goal-scoring 2008. A player with a cool head and excellent vision, Daniel's strength lays in his versatlity. Able to play forward, midfield and defence (such as this year) the best is still to come from Daniel after being sidelined with injury in 2009 and 2010.
TOM KOMADINA (Bench-Forward) - Leading AWFA goal-scorer 2000 with 44 goals. Held the local goal-scoring record till overtaken in 2010 by Zac Walker. Big, strong and quick, Tom "loved" scoring goals. In his one full year, Tom wouldn't hesitate tackling defenders, such was his appetite for scoring.
COACH - CARLO VILLANI (Snr) - A true technician, Carlo brought technique and structure while other coaches were employing "kick and run". Coach during 1990, 1991, 1995 and 2004, Carlo instilled player discipline and was a terrific "teacher" on the training track to his players. Winner league and cup 1990. Runner-up League 1995.
ASSISTANT COACH - DANNY MELLON - A great motivator, who was able to get the most out of his players. A real "people-person", the religious playing of the club song will be Danny's legacy. Coach of the team that went through undefeated, winning the league and cup double in 2001. He backed this up by winning the league in 2002.
MANAGER - COBB MILLYNN - One word describes Cobb-IRREPLACEABLE. A true gentleman and friend to anyone who knew him, Cobb was the obvious choice as Manager of the team. The heartbeat of the club, Cobb was admired and respect by all those who crossed paths with him.
